talking Jesus doll!!

Yes, just when you thought you'd seen it all. . . we now have this:

http://news.crossmap.com/story/what-would-talking-jesus-doll-say/2242.htm

Yes, Beverly Hills Teddy Company is bringing the world a foot high, pull the string in his back, plastic Jesus! I don't know what he says. . CURIOUS THOUGH!!! I don't know how I feel about this? do you? He looks very caucasian! A lot of us in the West have been fed that 'image' of Jesus, eh? flowing locks, piercing blue, maybe green eyes? perfect white teeth. At least Mel Gibson's movie "The Passion of the Christ" portrayed Jesus as looking somewhat swarthy. I had this childhood Bible that had a picture of Jesus seated on a 'stump' of some sort, a carpet of lush, green grass and beautiful flowers under his feet with a laughing child on each knee, a throng of joyous toddlers around and birds flying overhead. wow. . I wonder what He really looked like??

My first actual thought on this whole Jesus doll thing was: "Rod and Tod Flanders" would each have one!!!! ha ha. . . . I love the Simpsons!

Whaddya think about this doll? Apparently there is a "Messengers of Faith" series of foot-high talking dolls! Mary, Joseph, Moses, I don't know who all else. .

on that note, its time for bed. . .

LOL!!! yeah, removable plastic hair! and yeah, the market will be wide open if they choose to explore it. Some ppl are screaming "sacrilege".. . I don't feel that way. it just seems TACKY, eh? but i had talking dolls when i was a kid. . "Chatty Kathy" was my fave!!! in fact, that was my nickname!!! ha ha. . imagine?! but talking 'religious' dolls . . not too common, but hey, i see my granddaughter hug her pet hippo. . so if kids can have animal toys, etc. why not Bible ppl toys? might make the Bible a bit more real? just a thought. . not sayin' i'd buy one? but it certainly did spark discussion among me, Rob and KK last night, as we watched the local call-in show which brought this new product line to our attention.

I have seen Jesus and Moses action figures before...however never talking ones!!! One of the guys in my youth group has them, and on his website(with his friends from school), he has a section called "Jesus and Moses Love." Every week he chooses something different for them to love - its pretty funny, actully! Last I saw they loved toilet paper!! lol!

Dear Lord Kathy!

I don't like it...but I don't like most of the 'christian marketting' and see alot working in a Christian store! *sigh* ...the thing that has gotten me recently is the 'Gospel of John' board game...*shakes her head*

ya, this stuff has 'Flanders' written all over it!

the action whale isn't irreverent! that's funny! but you know what? they'd probably do that!!! sad to say. .They have every other crazy thing in the Christian book stores! I'm with Faith when it comes to practically shuddering when I go into a Christian book store! i feel like i'm on some sort of unreal planet!!! and yes, the portaits we see of Jesus are most likely just 'portrait friendly', like you mention, Linds. One of the callers on the show we watched said "What about a black Jesus?" I have this kinda strange idea in my head that when we each get to see Jesus, He will have the amazing capacity to appear in different ways to different people - i think that to a black person, He will appear black. . to an Asian person, He will appear Asian. . etc. I may be way off base here. . but its just a thought. why would He belong to the world, yet look only one way? Then again by the time we get to where He is, we probably won't be aware of race or skin tone etc. it will be a non-issue, or simply won't exist?

I bought an Asian 'nativity set' for a friend one Christmas. I got it at 'Ten thousand villages' I love it...I wanted to keep it! LOL

Maybe a little weird but, if you keep it in it's original box for a few years, you could sell it on ebay and make some great money!

kathryn said...

yeah, ebay! good plan. I'm not sure my curiosity would allow me to leave it in the box! I'd have to pull the cord to see what 'Jesus' says!
