30 years on

a tale of two pictures.
2009 and 1979

woman me
child me

i found the grad picture when i was cleaning a closet last week.
It really upset me.
Surely this fresh faced girl with the "70s Show" hair isn't me??
17 and not a line on my face.
47 and no comment.
I have this thing about aging.
I don't want to do it, but age doesn't care what i think about it.
30 more years from now?
I won't be posting pictures.
There's something undignified about losing youth.
But at the same time, age and experience can really develop character and wisdom.
I feel wiser than i did when they took this picture,
but I still feel very unfinished.
I have fading memories of being 17.
When I'm 77, i'll have fading memories of being 47.
hmmmm. .
deep breath.
I am trying to keep it all in perspective.
Its weird,
and wonderful, i guess?

I didn't know you when you were 17... but if that's what a 17 year old is supposed to look like, well... no wonder people think I'm 14.

You actually look younger in your 47 pic... you look happier. You look like you've experienced the joys (and pains) of having a family, and you are happy with where you are in life. I doubt the same could be said of you at 17.

I only hope that me at 53 can look back and say that I am thankful for the way my life progressed. As I sit wondering if I'll ever get married, ever figure out why I love music so much, ever realize how much God loves me, I can't help but wish I had the insight of my older self. While I'm not in a rush to be 53... I wish I had that kind of maturity. And the respect that comes with it.

Take care, friend!

and i'm SURE even more beautiful inside...
your heart is golden.

When's your birthday? I'm 47 as well - will be 48 in June.
I think you still look great!
Gotta love those 70's style hairdos.
Mine was lighted with "Sun In" and I had used a curling iron on my permed hair. It's not too bad, if a bit frizzy.

My dad just passed away last November and that really makes you wonder what you'll be like 30 years on. My mom turns 80 this year.

I'd love it if you'd visit my blog. I've got a photo up today from 1972.

I feel your pain!

I always thought Lindsay looked most like Rob, but WOW, the resemblance between you and Lindsay is quite strong!!

Aging has a way of keeping you honest.. after i turned 30 this year I have become a lot more reflective and more mindful of actions and their consequences before I take them.

I agree with the previous comments. The joy (and "joy") of family and the grace that only comes from God is displayed on that photo, Katarina.

... And not only do you look much happier, you even seem a bit more mischievous!

Kat sweetie you are one of the few people I know that is beautiful inside and out.In addition you have an amazing glow of happiness to you in person that just washes over those around you(in person and on here). Plus you look way younger than 47 ...and I'm sure you know that!! So suck it up buttercup if we're getting older then we're still alive!!xx
